Discount Cab Unveils Text-Based Cab Requests to Arizona

Phoenix, AZ (OPENPRESS) September 3, 2009 -- Hailing a cab in Phoenix and Tucson just got even easier - all you have to do is send a text message. Discount Cab is rolling out a new text-based cab service just in time for Labor Day, making it even easier to use the state's largest cab company.
Beginning September 1, Arizona residents can request a Discount Cab by texting a pick-up address to 777222 (777CAB). The service is free (standard text message fees apply) and fully automated, meaning reserving a cab by text is even quicker than by phone.
"We're always looking for ways to improve our service to our customers and text-based cab reservations are definitely a benefit to our customers," said Craig Hughes, CEO of Total Transit, Inc., which owns Discount Cab. "Sending a text for a cab places your order immediately and allows you to check on the status of your order while you wait."
Here's how it works: using you cell phone or smart phone, text an address (example: 123 central ave phoenix) to 777222. The request is received by Discount Cab and instantly confirmed. While you wait, you can text STATUS to check on your ride. If you need to cancel the cab ride, simply text CANCEL.
The service is provided in an exclusive statewide partnership with GoFastCab of San Diego, allowing Discount Cab to instantly route a text request from a customer to one of the company's more than 500 taxis. The service is available throughout Maricopa and Pima counties, metro Phoenix and Tucson.
"I can't believe how easy this text-a-cab program is," said Helen Plew of Glendale. "I was sent two immediate texts from Discount Cab, letting me know they received my request and that a cab was on the way with my confirmation number. My cab picked me up within 10 minutes of my text."
Labor Day also means another opportunity to utilize Discount Cab's Free Ride Back program, which aims at keeping inebriated drivers off the road. Take a Discount Cab home after a night out on the town and the company will drive you back to your vehicle the following day for free.
"Call or text, it's up to you," Hughes said. "Our goal is to keep you safe this holiday weekend and beyond."
