Preparing Students for CNA State Boards: Nursing Assistant Review Course Launches

Submitted by: aQuire Training & EasyCEU.com

2009-01-16 00:22:04

Oregon City, OR (OPENPRESS) January 16, 2009 -- Nursing assistant students training in classroom settings in Oregon now have a new tool to help them prepare for their state boards to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).

The aQuire Training Solutions' new Nursing Assistant Review Course contains multiple practice tests which learners may take over and over, resulting in increased test-taking comfort as well as retention of vital information required for passing state boards. The course also contains 15 videos which break required skills into simple step-by-step procedures.

Review course components are taken from the Oregon Health Care Association (OHCA) and aQuire Training's online nursing assistant course, which has a significantly higher pass rate than the state average for classroom programs. The OHCA/aQuire online course is the only online nursing assistant course currently approved in the state of Oregon.

"Increasing student knowledge will not only better prepare students for their state boards," notes Sharon Brothers, President and CEO of aQuire, "it will also better equip these individuals for their work after certification. "

Workforce development is a key focus of both OHCA and aQuire Training Solutions. As the population in the U.S. ages, the need for trained nursing assistants will increase far more rapidly than the availability of trained professionals. Currently in Oregon the demand for CNAs is higher than the availability, and the number of nursing assistant graduates is decreasing rather than increasing.

"Our mission is to provide training to caregivers at all levels, from in-home and family caregivers, to CNAs and managers," says Brothers. "This review course allows us to help newly trained nursing assistants feel more confident in their knowledge and be better prepared to take the state certification exam. Hopefully this increased confidence will result in more nursing assistants successfully completing the state examination and becoming certified, helping to reduce the current and projected nursing shortage."
