Volunteer Project Completes Sixth Custom-Built Home To Honor The Service Of East Carolina University, Leesville Road High School Alumnus

Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (OPENPRESS) RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 11, 2013 — Operation: Coming Home, a joint volunteer project by the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA), the U.S. Veterans Corps and various area nonprofits and businesses, presented the keys to its sixth Hero Home to U.S. Army Ranger 1st Lt. Nathan Rimpf, a Raleigh native and alumnus of East Carolina University and Leesville Road High School. Held Thursday, Nov. 7, the ceremony honored 1st Lt. Rimpf, a Purple Heart recipient who was severely injured by an IED explosion while serving in the Anbar Province of Afghanistan, in July 2012. The home is located in Raleigh's Renaissance Park neighborhood and was built by Chesapeake Homes.

On hand for the celebration were more than 80 cadets from ECU's Army ROTC Pirate Battalion, where 1st Lt. Rimpf was a leader prior to his 2010 graduation. The ceremony included addresses by Tim Minton, president of the Operation: Coming Home Foundation and executive vice president of the HBA; Mark Kring, local division president of Chesapeake Homes, the builder of the sixth Hero Home; and representatives from the U.S. Army. Rimpf and his family were in attendance, as were Operation: Coming Home foundation, volunteers and project donors, as well as Dr. Glen Gilbert, dean of the ECU Department of Health Education and Promotion; Joe Bryan, chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners; and John Odom, City of Raleigh councilmember. The ceremony also featured a performance by the 82nd Airborne Band.
