Nancy McFarlane, president of MedPro Rx, Inc. (www.medprorx.com), a provider of specialty pharmacy services to clients with chronic illnesses, has announced that the pharmacy is a Jack of Hearts sponsor for Hemophilia of North Carolina's "Hearts for Hemophilia" casino night.

Raleigh, NC (OPENPRESS) December 31, 2008 -- Nancy McFarlane, president of MedPro Rx, Inc. (www.medprorx.com), a provider of specialty pharmacy services to clients with chronic illnesses, has announced that the pharmacy is a Jack of Hearts sponsor for Hemophilia of North Carolina's "Hearts for Hemophilia" casino night. The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10 at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, located at 11 W. Jones St. Event attendees will receive dinner and listen to music while having the opportunity to participate in an auction and casino games such as blackjack, roulette, craps and poker. All proceeds from the event will benefit Hemophilia of North Carolina.

Approximately one in every 5,000 males nationwide is born with hemophilia, affecting all racial and socioeconomic groups equally. People with hemophilia experience bleeding following an injury and may have frequent spontaneous bleeding episodes, often into the joints and muscles. More traumatic injuries may result in serious problems and potential disability. The three most common types of hemophilia are Hemophilia A or Factor VIII Deficiency, Hemophilia B or Factor IX Deficiency, and von Willebrand Disease (vWD). vWD is caused by a deficiency or defect of a clotting protein, and it affects approximately 1-2 percent of the United States population. Unlike hemophilia, vWD occurs equally among males and females and is more likely to cause nosebleeds and bleeding under the skin than into the joints.
