(OPENPRESS) Being in the public eye since a young age is not an easy task since Nandu was the son of the Marathi actor-director Atmaram Bhende and Dr Asha Bhende. It was with his performance as Judas in the Alyque Padamsee production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1974 that he shot to fame. Nandu's role as Judas was highly acclaimed in the Indian production which ran for a year and was considered by many to be on par with the Broadway version. Music had been Nandu's calling since childhood when he performed for the All India Radio with his sister; and later on in college with the rock group "Velvette Fogg". This week, IBN-Lokmat brings to you the unprecedented talent of one of India's foremost English Rock stars Nandu Bhende who talks about his struggle. Tune in to Great Bhet, Saturday 29th December 2012 at 9:30 pm.

Nandu has sung playback songs in Hindi films for various music directors such as R.D. Burman, Laxmikant Pyarelal and Bappi Lahiri for whose film "Disco Dancer" Nandu went on to fetch a Gold Disc. In 1988, Nandu represented India at the Festival Of India in the former USSR where he along with his group performed seven shows in various parts of the country including two in Moscow. He sang in Hindi, Marathi, English and in Russian to the great delight of the Soviets.

After a gap of several years, Nandu once again started singing live to the delight of his fans. Since July 2001, he has performed for many shows around the country and is working on recording an album of his original works in the near future.
