Ayrshire, Scotland (OPENPRESS) February 23, 2009 -- The Maybole and District branch of Save the Children recently held a very successful dinner dance at the Western House Hotel in Ayr, which raised a profit of £2,500.
Approximately 100 guests attended the enjoyable evening in the Ballroom, with a lovely meal and live music from local band Rumour Has It.
Local businesses had donated generous gifts to the raffle, including Begg Scotland of Ayr, Burns Smokehouse, Abbey Carrick Glen Hospital, Blairquhan Estates, WJ Thomson fencing contractor (Maybole) and Scruples Hair Salon (Maybole). The highlight of the evening was the auction of a personal helicopter flight for a private party to fly out from Blairquhan Castle, sponsored by Northern Ireland businessman TJ Shields.
Auctioneer for the evening was John Scott MSP, who has supported the efforts of Save the Children Maybole Branch over many years.

This year is the 90th birthday of Save the Children, originally set up to look after the thousands of homeless, displaced and starving children throughout Europe after the first world war and the charity is still working to care for children in desperate need in disaster and war torn areas like Gaza and the Congo.
The Maybole committee are planning a number of events for 2009 including a children's garden party, the annual Texas scramble golf tournament at Brunston Castle Golf Club, and an autumn ceilidh, which we hope we will be well supported as usual.
