True Crime Author, Ken Lang, Named "50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading"

Submitted by: Ken Lang Studios

North East, MD (OPENPRESS) October 21, 2011 -- Detective turned author, Ken Lang, has been named a winner in The Author's Show 2011 "50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading." This momentous award comes on the heels of his debut release Walking Among the Dead: True Stories from a Homicide Detective which is captivating true crime fans throughout the United States and the United Kindgom.

"This is an incredible honor," says Lang about the recognition. "To be counted among such talented writers so early in my writing career is a great encouragement for me to keep telling my true crime stories from my experiences as a detective."

Lang, a 22 year law enforcement veteran, released his debut book in March of this year. He was encouraged to write his story about his time as a homicide detective from the Maryland area after a chance meeting with the renowned John Riddle, founder of I Love To Write Day.

"I was pulling a security gig at a local church who was hosting a conference where John [Riddle] was a guest speaker. I asked him about how I could make money writing online content for law enforcement websites. When he learned about me experience as a detective he pushed me towards writing true crime books and crime novels. It was the best decision I ever made."

With 15 years experience investigating rapes, robberies, and murders, Lang focused his debut book on a handful of cases from his 3 year stint as a homicide detective; and he took a radically different approach in his writing. "I decided to write Walking Among the Dead in a third person novel format for two reasons. First, it puts the reader right into the crime scene action and lets them experience it first hand. Secondly, it enabled me to cut my teeth on writing in the third person format so that I would be ready for when I start writing my crime novel series."

Within weeks of self-publishing and releasing Walking Among the Dead, Lang's writing talent grabbed the attention of Chris O'Byrne, founder of Red Willow Digital Press. "I'm seriously impressed by [Lang's] writing," says O'Byrne who quickly signed on the new author with Red Willow Digital Press.

Through his self-promotion marketing strategies, Lang was soon featured on The Author's Show who hosts the "50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading" contest. Lang was nominated earlier in the year and named a finalist this past September. After the polls opened to the public for voting, Lang secured enough votes, and was named a winner.

As for books on the horizon, Lang has submitted his second manuscript, Standing In Death's Shadow, to his publisher. He is currently writing the third and final book of this homicide series.
