54 y.o. woman to go on 11,000 mile cycling ride around USA perimeter. This is a 40 year dream, since age 14. She will look at effects of prolonged cycling on the body and also plans to talk to Americans about what is meaningful in their lives.
Albuquerque, NM (OPENPRESS) A young lady of 54 begins her journey around the United States. Many people have a dream or goal they wish to achieve at some point on their lives. For most, the physical goals are accomplished when they are younger and save other, less taxing goals, till later in life. Someone forgot to tell this to Patricia "Jo" Kearney, or TravelinJo from her website. Jo's goal is to bike around the circumference of the USA on her tricycle. This is not just any tricycle, it is a recumbent trike which, weighing in at about 60 pounds, is much larger and many times heaver than a regular bicycle. Add tools, camping gear, food, water, and clothing, and the weight is well over 100 lbs. This makes the task significantly more difficult and would scare off all but the most dedicated.
Jo has worked hard to get fitness level up to the point where she feels comfortable to undertake this daunting adventure. Still it would be a challenging task for anybody let alone someone in their mid 50s. She is hoping to make contact with a health organization that would be interested in monitoring her progress and the effects it has on her body.
This goal, to ride around the USA started as a dream in her teen years. This goal, like Jo, herself, has matured. While she still wants to prove that age is not a barrier to doing what you want in life, Jo hopes to accomplish more than just that on her trip. She plans to meet and talk with many people along the way, and to learn. She wants to learn what makes people get up and face another day in their life. What makes people want to live? What does their life mean to them? What makes them happy? What makes life worthwhile? What do they enjoy? Who do they love? In the end she hopes to share what she's learned with the rest of us.
You can follow "TravelinJo" on her journey through her website, www.travelinjo.com. She will be posting maps as she goes showing her route and outlining some of her notable experiences. She will also be keeping a photo gallery and a blog so there will be no shortage of information. Check in to see how she's doing and perhaps offer some encouragement along the way.
