About 900 kilometers around Finnish Lapland, Starting and finishing in Rovaniemi.
No signed tracks, no checkpoints, only mandatory waypoints.
(OPENPRESS) Organized by Polarguide and Logistics (Rovaniemi150), the Lapland Extreme Challenge is a 900 kms winter extreme ultramarathon in Finnish Lapland with a clear philosophy: racers must choose their way, their gear and their style to face a competition like this.
Next January 2014 will be the first edition of this brand new style race in Europe. This is an extreme winter human powered race where there is no signed tracks and no checkpoints, only mandatory waypoints.
Organisation only tells mandatory waypoints coordinates and give information about the maps that participants can use to plan their journey.
The idea of the event is to pass through the waypoints without outside help. This leaves open to every participant to choose the way they want to take to arrive to the mandatory waypoint once they see where the waypoint is. During those days the participants are on they're own and they are responsible for their actions.
Organisation will follow the racers via the internet thanks to the broadcast signals emitted by a mandatory satellite device that all participants must carry. The following will be also possible for everyone who connects to the website's race.
Winning or even finishing in the extremes of winter weather depends on how comfortable the racers are with their abilities, level of experience and amount of risk they are willing to take.
The Lapland Extreme Challenge Race is a tough one, only for experienced people but participants can have the option to stop for shoping or even sleep in hotel if they want...
Even if it's not the harderst race on earth... this is not a beginner's race
