Lima OH native Greg Pitts, now residing in South Florida has joined forces with The national Guard ‘Operation Troop Support” in efforts to raise funds to assist the family readiness groups of central and western ohio.
(OPENPRESS) November 24, 2009 -- Being an Army veteran, Mr. Pitts felt that it was imperative to lend his hand to support the military and families. “I was stationed at Ft. Hood and the recent tragedy there touched me deeply. Its always stressful during this time of year for the men and women who are deployed as well as for their families left here in the states. With the economy how it is I had to help in some way to raise money for the soldiers. In the area of Lima and St. Mary’s Ohio, over the past 5 years, several factories have closed their doors causing many of the residents to join the national guard in an effort to support their families.”
Greg Pitts himself joined the Army in 1984 and served for 8 years, half of which time was served in the reserves. He was stationed at Ft. Hood in Texas assigned to both the 2nd Armored Division and the First Calvary Division. He credits his military experience with allowing him to establish rapport with people from all walks of life, as well as giving him a sense of purpose. “My military experience is something that no one can take away from me. It makes me feel good to know that I was able to give my time and effort to serve this great country that we live in. We were all family, there was no black or white, we all were the same color….the mean green fighting machine!”
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Family Readiness Groups of the National Guard from Lima, Greenville, St. Mary’s and Piqua OH.
The fundraiser, sponsored by WIMT T-102 radio station in Lima Ohio, Budweiser and other local businesses, has Greg Pitts as one of several contributors. Other participants include Rascall Flatt, Martina McBride, Trace Adkins and Faith Hill, among other individuals and businesses in the Central and Western Ohio region.
The event will take place at the Palazoo in Botkins, Ohio on Wednesday November 25th, 2009.
There will be a live band, door prizes, 50/50 auction and all who purchase a ticket will be entered for a drawing to win a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada.
