Houston, TX (OPENPRESS) April 28, 2009 -- Hoang Quan Vu has joined the Houston office of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP as a partner in its Banking section.
Mr. Vu has represented lenders, issuers, borrowers, sponsors and purchasers on more than $15 billion dollars in transactions, including leveraged lending; project finance; oil, gas, energy and alternative energy financing; first lien/second lien finance; asset-based and receivables lending; restructurings and workouts; and other commercial financing. His representations include pipelines and gas gathering systems, power, ethanol, processing, LNG facilities, baseball stadiums, wind facilities, and oil and gas assets.
"Quan is an important addition to our firm's expertise in banking and finance," said Gardere Managing Partner Steve Good. "With his background in alternative energy financing and extensive experience, I suspect he'll be quite busy for the foreseeable future."
Mr. Vu has been named a Texas Super Lawyer Rising Star, featured in Texas Monthly, and was named to the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association's "Best Lawyers Under 40" List, a distinction given to only 20-25 Asian lawyers across the country each year. He was also selected as a "Lawyer on the Fast Track" by H Texas Magazine and was a recipient of a 2008 Texas Legal Diversity Award from the Texas Diversity Council.
A 1995 graduate of Harvard Law School, Mr. Vu received his undergraduate degree in economics, magna cum laude, from Harvard in 1992. He is the President and board member of the Harvard University Club of Houston, the current Chair and a past President of the Asian American Bar Association of Houston, and a founding member of the Asian American Bar Foundation of Houston. While serving as the president of the AABA, he established a mentorship program for Asian American law students and created a community outreach program that helps provide legal services to the Asian American community. While serving as a Gala Co-Chair for the Harvard Club, he helped raised $120,000 to provide for scholarships and grants to send Houston area principals, teachers and non-profit business leaders to Harvard University for leadership and educational training. In addition to his legal and community work, Mr. Vu is a competitive ballroom dancer. Before joining Gardere, he was a banking partner with the Houston office of Mayer Brown LLP. He is or has been active in a number of civic, business and leadership organizations, including Center For Houston's Future and the Mayor's International Affairs Council/Asia-Australia and Asian Chamber of Commerce.
