(OPENPRESS) March 11, 2008 -- Mr Chime Youngdrung, The President of the National Democratic Party of Tibet has spoken in support of Bjork. Last week at her concert in mainland China, Bjork utilised her artistic platform to highlight the Tibetan struggle for freedom. This expression of free speech was reported in the worlds media and has sucessfully drawn much needed attention and interest to the illegal occupation of Tibet by China. Numerous celebrities such as Uma Thurman, Richard Gere, H.R.H. Prince Charles and Stephen Spielberg share Bjork's feelings for Tibet and its freedom. She is not alone.

"As President of the National Democratic Party of Tibet I wish to thank Bjork for the brave stance she took in support of Tibet and its people in Shanghai at her recent concert. I want Bjork to know that all of the Tibetan people, over 100,000 in exile, both in India and all over the world are very grateful for highlighting the human rights violations in our country, which is being illegally occupied for the last 50 years, to the worlds attention. Especially in the build up to the Beijing Olympics."

He went onto to say that "This act of kindness has brought much needed world attention to our on going struggle for freedom. Her act of enlightened compassion has brought hope to thousands of Tibetans living in exile who dream and pray for their country to be free and independent again. I want her to know that she has the full support of the Tibetan people and should be applauded."

Most of the 100,000 Tibetans living in exile stil only hold registration certificates after being refugees for over two decades.

"Bjork´s song dedication has been very beneficial to us by drawing attention to what is still happening. Through her action the world and its media can not forget us and must watch over us as we begin our peaceful 'March to Freedom' on the 10th of March from Dharamsala back into Tibet - all the way to Lhasa. Over 20,000 exiles are expected to attend by the time we attempt to cross the border into Tibet."

Last year the world's media broadcast footage of Tibetan refugees trying to escape China to exile in India. This same footage also showed Chinese soldiers shooting a Buddhist nun dead in a totally unprovoked attack. The National Democratic Party of Tibet hopes all media will document and witness their march to freedom most importantly at the border.

"We hope to see our country, one which is the size of Europe, to be returned to us and our children in the very near future. We can only achieve this with the help of the rest of the world and brave artists like Bjork."
