Philadelphia, PA (OPENPRESS) July 31, 2012 -- Internal Revenue Service representatives will present at full-day workshop at La Salle University on September 13 for nonprofit organizations in the Greater Philadelphia region, about meeting their tax obligations and maintaining their all-important tax-exempt status.
Last year, nearly 20,000 local nonprofits lost their tax-exempt status for not filing an annual Form 990 series tax return. The Form 990 Series is one of five key topics that IRS representatives will cover at the workshop, which will be held at La Salle University Union, Dunleavey Room, 1900 West Olney Avenue, Philadelphia, from 9 am to 4:30 pm, with 8:30 registration. The event is hosted by The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University's School of business.
The IRS is presenting this program in more than 30 cities around the U.S. in FY 2012. The presenters for this workshop are Rhona Foster, an IRS Revenue Agent and a CPA and Joe Kovacs, an IRS Tax Law Specialist and a JD. In addition to discussing the Form 990 filing requirements, other topics will include activities that can jeopardize an organization's 501 (c)(3) status, unrelated business income, charitable gaming, employment issues, tips on record-keeping, and answers to frequently asked questions.
The event costs $50 per person, including continental breakfast and lunch. Advance registration is mandatory and is available through The Nonprofit Center at La Salle University's School of Business at 215-951-1701 or online at www.lasallenonprofitcenter.org/.
