A New York Delicatessen on Wheels Hits the Streets of Los Angeles

The bright yellow deli on wheels features a larger than life cartoonish portrait of it's owner and resident Schmuck, Matthew Koven, who serves up deli favorites such as hot pastrami, juicy corned beef, mouthwatering brisket, knishes and award -winning lemonade. "This is my rolling restaurant," says Koven. "It's a menu not for the kosher crowd, but one for deli aficionados, and it is my goal to bring Angelino's a taste of authentic New York deli cuisine." Along with classics such as "Fiddler on the Rueben," the popular Pastrami Reuben sandwich, other offerings include; "The Lean Schmuck," Oven Roasted Turkey with Avocado on Multigrain, "Oy Vey Wrap," Roast Beef with Potato Salad and American Cheese and "The Schmuckwich," Dark Chocolate, Peanut Butter with Banana and Jelly on Multigrain Bread. The Schmuck also brings his freshly made lemonade, rated #1 lemonade in New York by NY Magazine two years in a row, to Los Angeles.
Koven began his restaurant career, working in his Dad's Deli on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He graduated culinary school and has gone on to own several restaurants of his own in New York. After visiting Los Angeles several times to check out the burgeoning food truck scene, Koven saw an opportunity for a deli truck and moved to Los Angeles with his wife and business partner, Roger Ramkissoon in spring of 2012. Schmuck with a Truck serves lunch and dinner in and around Los Angeles, at special events, festivals and street corners. Breakfast items and special orders are available upon request.
