Lion Brand Yarn Supports the Yarnbombing of the Philadelphia Museum of Art

New York, NY (OPENPRESS) May 3, 2012 -- Lion Brand Yarn Company is the yarn sponsor for the Philadelphia Museum of Art's new exhibit, "Craft Spoken Here". This is the museum's first special exhibition dedicated to crafting. Today, Jessie Hemmons, a Philadelphia fiber artist known as the Philadelphia Yarn bomber, will "yarnbomb" the façade of the museum's Perelman building using two of Lion Brand Yarn Company's most popular yarns in bright colors, Hometown USA and Vanna's Choice. The exhibit runs from May 5 - August 12, 2012.
This milestone exhibit for the Philadelphia Museum of Art will feature diverse craft pieces from around the world, sharing the many ways in which museum artists, collectors and critics approach craft. The public will be invited to an interactive "CraftLab" in the exhibition hall, where they will be able to participate in craft classes and workshops. Lion Brand Yarn Company will be providing yarn and other supplies for the yarn crafting events.

Coincidentally, this year Lion Brand Yarn Company is celebrating the theme of yarn as art. At this year's Craft and Hobby Association Winter show, Lion Brand Yarn Company presented a fashion show featuring the wearable art designs of emerging designers from around the world. This theme is also present in the current window display at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio, the Lion Brand Yarn Company's unique retail store and education center in New York City. The window display features three fine art pieces recreated entirely out of yarn. Lion Brand Yarn Company hopes to inspire others to think about the many different yarn crafting possibilities there are that go beyond traditional knitting and crocheting.
