Great Neck, NY (OPENPRESS) January 17, 2012 -- In April, Comedian Evan Wecksell's wife, Kelly Meyersfield, will be doing the pushing. Before that, the guitar-playing comedian will be pushing off the tarmac for his customary spring college tour.
While the tour technically began last Saturday at a Jewish youth event in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, the college dates begin on Tuesday, January 17 at Valdosta State University in Georgia. The date resulted from a hysterical 'College The Musical' performance at Valdosta from Wecksell and Meyersfield in September.
As Campus Activities Board Executive Chairman Malcolm Mayfield explained, "Aside from my personal attraction to his comedy, the students at my university flooded my email with requests to see him... the buzz was real. I have no doubt that anything Evan is involved with can deliver!"
At press time, the tour takes Wecksell through 8 states across 12 dates, which includes a stretch in early February where he plays thrice in Vermont over seven days. That begins at Landmark College on February 2.
"[Simply put,] we are hoping he will make us laugh," Landmark College Director of Student Activities Emily North states.
In the midst of his Vermont binge, Wecksell will be playing a Greek fundraiser at one of his favorite campus stops, Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
This will be Wecksell's fourth appearance at RPI as he teams up with Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and Alpha Phi Sorority for an event to benefit the North American Food Drive and Alpha Phi Foundation.
Greeks have also played a predominant role in Wecksell's calendar and on February 23 he debuts at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, a campus he has longed to play since 2005.
"I've been itching for Bradley since I started doing this," says Wecksell. "I've been in touch with the Theta Chi chapter there over the years and they've always seemed like great guys. I'm sure it will translate to the entire campus."
Matt Olivero, a member of Bradley's Activity Committee (ACBU) feels the same way. "We brought Evan because he has a type of comedy that most comedians don't have," points out Olivero. "We are especially looking forward to his Greek Talk to our students."
Wecksell's talk, "It's Great to be Greek," follows his comedy career, reveals his Greek Life story and explains how going and being Greek can benefit one as an undergraduate and alumnus.
The long-waited campuses continue March 1 at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey.
"The University Program Board is excited to have Evan as part of our weekly coffeehouse series," says UPB chair Emy Monday. "His night will be called Space Night."
A new wrinkle to the calendar includes Wecksell's first comedy seminar called "How To Make Money In Comedy." Open to the public and taking place at Hollywood's Celebrity Centre International, aspiring and experienced comedians and artists will receive Wecksell's wealth of knowledge about the comedy business as they look to take their career to the next level.
"Whenever people find out I'm a comedian they ask two questions: 'Is that your day job?' and 'Who books your shows?'" Wecksell reveals. "This seminar will explain why the answers are 'Yes' and 'usually me.' My representation is great and they do help, but I know they have other clients besides me... and proactive is not just an acne medication, it's a state of mind."
