Zareba Offers Tips to Cost-effectively Maintain Electric Fencing Systems

Submitted by: The Simon Group

Lititz, PA (OPENPRESS) December 1, 2011 -- Woodstream Corporation, a global manufacturer of animal control products including FiShock and Zareba brand of electronic containment systems that provide safe, economical alternatives to barbed wire fencing, now offers information about how to maintain electric fencing systems via the company's online learning center. Updated information added to the site can help fence owners save thousands of dollars on fence repair and maintenance costs.

Woodstream recommends that fence owners inspect five different components of their fence routinely to ensure that it is maintained properly, including fence charger, insulators, wire, grounding and overall system inspection.

Andrea Itnyre, category development associate for the electronic containment division of Woodstream, noted, "There are some easy to do, yet often overlooked, aspects of fence maintenance that help avoid failures that can put your livestock in jeopardy. Knowing the specifics of one's system is the first step in ensuring you are well equipped to cost-effectively handle repairs and routine maintenance requirements."

Itnyre continued, "Take the fence charger, paramount in maintaining your high tensile or standard electric fence. AC units should be checked regularly. A blinking light indicates that the fence charger is working properly. DC units must have batteries checked and replaced regularly. And, the battery on a solar unit should be recharged."

Woodstream's learning center also provides recommendations to make fence maintenance hassle-free by having the right tools on hand. Having a simple instrument like a voltage tester, for example, helps fence owners quickly and easily troubleshoot short circuits and determine that adequate voltage is on the fence line, making diagnoses easier and repair time shorter.

In addition to clearing fence wires from debris like tree branches and weeds that may draw power away from the fence, Woodstream's learning center offers advice on additional visual inspections including walking the fence perimeter regularly to check insulators for cracks and breaks as well as inspecting corner insulators to ensure they are holding the proper amount of tension at all times.

Fence owners can visit the Zareba website and check the learning center page for more information. By following a few simple, routine maintenance steps, tensile fencing can last for decades, and standard electric fencing systems can last for many years.
