Step Aboard and Compare the West's Top Yachts, Sept. 22-25 in Newport Beach
Newport Beach, CA (OPENPRESS) August 31, 2011 -- There's a lot to see at the upcoming 33rd annual Lido Yacht Expo, Sept. 22-25 at Lido Marina Village. Along with the West Coast's largest in-the-water assembly of large yachts for sale -- more than 200 of them -- show-goers will get a rare opportunity to check out the 113-foot wooden tall ship Irving Johnson, check out a designated Sailboat Dock showcasing some of the West's finest sailing yachts, and see live demonstrations of the high-tech JetLev water-powered jet pack personal flight system.

If you've been dreaming about flying a personal jet pack ever since you first watched the movie "The Rocketeer," your wait is finally over. JetLev Technologies Inc. has introduced the JetLev R200 -- a recreational jet pack that almost anyone can enjoy using over water. And you can see it in action, at the Lido Yacht Expo.
The JetLev system is attached to a 6-foot boat with a Sea-Doo hull. Water is pumped to the pack through a giant tube, blasting water down as the passenger is propelled up. The JetLev R200 is designed for safety, stability, ease-of-use, and precise and nearly effortless flight controls. You can learn to fly with just a few minutes of basic training and as little as six minutes of on-water instructions.
Step Aboard a Brigantine
Show-goers at this year's Lido Yacht Expo will also get a chance to tour the Los Angeles Maritime Institute's flagship 113-foot tall ship Irving Johnson, which will be docked at the show following its appearance in the Wooden Boat Festival and Great Brigantine Race in Newport Harbor, Sept. 17 and 18. The brigantine -- with two masts, 13 sails and 5,032 square feet of sail area -- was constructed in San Pedro in 2002 of South American purpleheart hardwood, framed with white oak and bronze fasteners. It was named the official tall ship of the city of Los Angeles. Irving Johnson currently sails in the TopSail Youth Program, which helps at-risk youths learn discipline and teamwork by learning to safely handle the tall ship.

Inspect the West's Finest Yachts
Each year, the Lido Yacht Expo presents the West Coast's biggest in-the-water collection of large and mid-size yachts -- including new and ocean-tested brokerage vessels, both power and sail. The show attracts boating enthusiasts from across the country, because it gives them a rare chance to board and closely inspect a wide variety of debuting new models and notable brokerage yachts, in one convenient location.
This year, the Lido Yacht Expo's selection of showboats will include many standouts. Early entries in this year's show include head-turning yachts from some of the world's top builders.
Fairline California will present the all-new Fairline Targa 58 Gran Turismo -- Fairline Yachts' sleek and luxury-laden flagship sports cruiser. Remarkable design is in evidence throughout this powerful sport yacht, which is superbly equipped, contemporary in style and remarkably bright and spacious. The 58's single-level living and galley area can undergo a striking transformation: The roof glides smoothly open and the large side windows drop down, while the aft doors slide open to convert the deck salon into an elegant alfresco environment. Other notable features include a hydraulically powered tender launch system, a full-width master stateroom with an en suite head -- accessible via an elegant staircase and atrium -- and two comfortable guest cabins. Lido Yacht Expo attendees can also check out the new Fairline Squadron 58, which made its world debut at this year's London Boat Show; and the Fairline Targa 38, offering surprisingly luxurious accommodations and practical features in a compact performance sports cruiser.
Pacific Asian Enterprises will present the Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer Ata Marie, commissioned in 2009. It is essentially a brand-new boat that has been on an extended one-year shakedown cruise, having been used by a customer who is awaiting delivery of another new Nordhavn. This 56 has been put through its paces and is ready to go cruising anywhere. It offers a phenomenal 3,000-mile cruising range under power, with its single 165 hp Lugger diesel engine. Among its outstanding features are an aft covered cockpit trimmed in varnished teak, a salon with excellent views on both sides from its seating areas, a traditional pilothouse -- accessible by doors to port and starboard -- with a single helm seat and a large chart table, a sailing cockpit with a steering binnacle abaft the mast, a lazarette and two staterooms with separate heads and showers.
Offshore West will show a rare 2010 Offshore 76 Motoryacht with just about everything a serious yachtsperson could aspire to. Designed and equipped by Offshore Yachts as a show model/demonstrator, it has low hours (115), is in like-new condition, has a refined and comfortable decor and offers spacious accommodations for a substantial group of family and friends -- with three staterooms, four en suite heads and crew quarters. It comes equipped with MAN V8 1,200 hp diesel engines, extensive electronics, ABT 40 hp hydraulic bow and stern thrusters, ABT stabilizers, a 90,000 BTU air conditioning system and much, much more. It is covered by Offshore new-boat warranties -- and, of course, offers legendary Offshore performance.
Also expected to turn heads at this year's Lido Yacht Expo is the 52 Ovation -- the first in a series of prestige yachts manufactured by Silverton Marine Corp. It is equipped with the new triple Volvo IPS system with joystick controls. The 52 offers three staterooms with a full-width master and walk-around queen berths. Its large flybridge has a hardtop and full enclosure -- plus, a barbecue, a refrigerator, an ice-maker, a sink and air conditioning. The swim platform is hydraulically operated to handle a dinghy and can convert to a play platform at anchor. It is equipped with the Seakeeper Zero Speed Gyro Stabilizing system, so that when everyone else is rocking and rolling, you will be sitting level and comfortable. The 52 Ovation comes loaded with electronics and is turnkey and ready for a weekend trip.
Chuck Hovey Yachts will present an ocean-tested and fully equipped 55 Fleming Pilothouse Motoryacht -- the 2007 Strumpett -- at this year's show. Fleming Pilothouse Motoryachts -- including the F55, F65 and F75 -- are proven, serious cruising yachts. Smooth, quiet and dependable performance are hallmarks -- and more than 200 Fleming Pilothouse Motoryachts have been sold to date, all over the world. Continuous refinements and upgrades are built into every Fleming hull. Also at this year's Lido Yacht Expo, show-goers can see the Beneteau Oceanis 50. This advanced sailing yacht features a sleek coach roof, long side windows and a fully integrated mainsail arch. Its ergonomic design makes the most of the generous space. Continuing the partnership with Berret/Racoupeau and Nauta Design, the Oceanis 50 showcases a luxurious interior that is contemporary and open -- trimmed in lustrous mahogany and leather. On deck, the new direction is even more evident. Along with the Oceanis 58, the Oceanis 50 will be one of the first production cruising yachts to benefit from a fixed spray hood arch on which the mainsheet is integrated into a visually pleasing addition. Access to the saloon is by gently sloping companionway stairs. To port is a home-size galley with plenty of storage. Buyers can choose from two-cabin or three-cabin versions.
