Phoenix, AZ (OPENPRESS) June 8, 2011 -- Family Christian Counseling Center is proud to announce the beginning of services in Phoenix. The Center serves families from a faith based perspective that respects personal faith tradition. They specialize in treating traumatized children and work closely with adoptive and foster care families.
Deborah Pettitt is the Director of the Center. She has extensive training and experience in treating children and has been serving families for over 20 years. She is one of a handful of Registered Play Therapist Supervisors in the state of Arizona. Her specialty is helping children recover from trauma, abuse and neglect. Deborah has presented both locally and nationally, and is a past president of the Arizona Play Therapy Association. She has been providing supervision for therapists for the past 12 years.
"I am very excited to work closely with the real heroes in our children's lives. The adoptive and foster care parents display immense courage - it takes commitment, patience, persistence, compassion, and superhuman strength to love a child to healing."
The Center is open 5 days a week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. It is located at 1300 East Missouri Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
The Center uses expressive techniques to engage children in the therapy process and bring about change. These techniques include sand tray, drama, art therapy, play therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). The Center also has three therapy dogs that help children address difficult topics. Since the center treats the whole child they also have a nutritional consultant and a pediatric massage therapist.
Professional therapists at the Center are skilled in supporting foster and adoptive families, especially with regard to attachment issues. They understand the extreme pressure families face when parenting troubled children. They also treat school problems, divorce adjustment, grief and loss, anxiety, depression and conduct disorders.
Families in the Phoenix area now have another resource to help them bring healing to the lives of children.
